How Does This Work?
The contents of these pages (that is, all the text found under the URL http://www.dino-pirates.com/dponiwiki/) are licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution License. What that means is that you, or anyone, can take the text (and only the text) on these pages and do whatever they like with it, as long as they include the name of the page's creator on what they distribute.
What does that mean?
Well, if somebody wants to take the text of all these pages and print them in a book and sell that book, they can do that. Anybody can do that, as long as they include the names of the people who created the pages.
More interestingly, we think, is that if somebody wants to create a book about any of the characters here, or the places, or whatever, they can do that, too, again, so long as they include the names of the creators. Or a movie. Or a video game. Or whatever.
Creators?
For our purposes, a creator is anyone who contributes to the existing content of a page. If your name is listed against any of the changes made to a page that show up in the version being used by someone, that someone has to include your name as one of the creators of that page. If you made a change that was subsequently reversed and doesn't show up in the version being used, well, you're kind of out luck there, as far as we're concerned.
Note that by "creating" we're assuming you made up whatever you wrote yourself, and didn't, you know, rip it off from someone. But that COULD happen. If it does, contact Corey Reid and we can sort this out. This is the web, and anything can happen. We don't have magic powers to determine that everyone's being fair and honest, but we are committed to helping justice be done. Sort of like Batman.
Images?
For right now, images are NOT offered under this license. This site does not store any images, but allows users to create links to display them, so any images you see here are probably under copyright by their respective owners. Nothing about displaying those images here constitutes any sort of challenge to the rights of their owners.
If you happen to be the owner of an image displayed here and you'd rather it not be, just drop a line to Corey Reid and he'll take it down quite happily.
What's the Idea?
In a nutshell, we're trying to create a fully-realised setting -- a fantastic imaginary world filled with fascinating characters and evocative places for storytellers to build from -- shared through a Creative Commons model that allows anyone to contribute to and use DINO-PIRATES OF NINJA ISLAND in their own work.
This will provide:
- Open and free access to a fun and reasonably consistent stable of characters and places.
- A chance to show off one's creative chops in a variety of formats.
- The chance to provide an example of an entirely new model for content development and collaboration.
As the community adds to the wealth of ideas and material on this site, all of us benefit from a greater richness to the DINO-PIRATES OF NINJA ISLAND setting.
